Genesis
In the grim of illiteracy and religious dogmas, in nineties, a group of like-minded people wanted to do something for needy and neglected society. On 26th April 1992 their firm determination leads them in the establishment of Yawan Kisan Library for Information & Broadcasting Resource Authority (YK-LIBRA). The name “Yawan Kisan” was coined with the inspiration from the slogan, “Jai Jawan & Jai Kisan” initiated by Lal Bahadur Shastri in the year 1965 then Prime Minister of India. The Organisation realised that in order to bring a meaningful change in the society; they have to focus on youth mass from village level, disseminate ethical information through robust institution called Library and broadcast valuable information in local languages through radio station. In the cross-section of society; YK-LIBRA tried to connect people from different segments for positive development. Now Organization has completed its 32 years of operation having its presence in 7 states in India, with main focus on alleviating poverty and addressing social exclusion by facilitating empowerment of marginalised communities, improving the standard of living of the communities, addressing gender inequality and developing climate change mitigation strategies for a better future. YK-LIBRA has developed an open and transparent organizational culture, based on the core values of respect, integrity, commitment, and excellence. A robust governance structure and further investments in strengthening key functional capabilities ensured increased efficiency and accountability in work culture. Over the years, the organization has emerged as a preferred partner for communities, governments (local, state and central), project implementation partners, donors and other key stakeholders by delivering planned outcomes at the grassroot level through innovative solutions, while also generating knowledge that can be shared and adapted to diverse development challenges.
